After nearly two weeks of closure due to flooding, the Shiocton Public Library has reopened, offering the community a sense of normalcy and a welcoming space to gather. Remarkably undamaged, the library is serving as a steady resource for residents navigating cleanup and recovery. Librarian Kim DeWindt emphasized the importance of having a place where people can feel “normal,” while a newly launched in-library food pantry is helping meet growing needs as the community begins to assess flood impacts. With schools also reopening, the library’s return signals hopeful steps forward—and plans are already underway to support residents further through upcoming hygiene supply drives.
